Slow and steady wins the race at the Cigar Smoking World Championship

The people from the Cigar Smoking World Championship want to know one thing: how slow can you go.

Kicking off the Asian qualifying rounds on 16th March at the Astor Bar, St Regis Kuala Lumpur, competitors will attempt to smoke their cigar for the longest period of time. Simple enough, right? But any cigar enthusiast will tell you that’s something not easily achievable, especially as each regulation (and specially created) Macanudo Inspirado Mareva cigar must stay lit the entire time, otherwise you’re disqualified.

This global luxury lifestyle event has over 35 qualification rounds in cities across the world, and eventually culminates at the Grand Final in Split, Croatia, in September this year. The current Champion is Mr Hauke Walter (Germany) who clocked in at 2 hours, 48 minutes, 8 seconds at the 2018 Grand Final, and the current CSWC World Record Holder is Mr Darren Cioffi (USA) who has a staggering unbeaten time of 3 hours, 24 minutes.

Special guest and founder of CSWC Marko Bilić (pictured above) will be hosting what is expected to be an incredibly popular event. The CSWC Kuala Lumpur Qualification Event Winner receives a Cuervo y Sobrinos Swiss watch, and a chance to compete in Croatia. Second place receives a Les Fine Lames cigar cutter, and third place receives an ST Dupont lighter.

Entry for competitors is RM285 and extremely limited, and will be sold on a first come, first served basis – check out their website for more information. Spectators are welcomed, and free to enter and enjoy drinks and cigars.
