Girls’ Night Out
Planning a girly night? Ladies who are looking to party without any unwanted attention and party-poopers ruining the night should check out these five spots:
INDIE BAR: DAIKANYAMA
The alternos are not sleazos. And because these hipsters and indie kids are too cool to bother about anything, ladies will be on safe ground. Every Saturday night, the folk from Deer Society and their international acts spin everything from dubstep to electro tunes to nu disco at Upper Daikanyama. Let loose within the funky beats and chill vibe. Warning to ladies in elongated shoes: you might want to switch heels for flats, or the steep steps could be disastrous. Or else, just stick to the bar ground floor: share a bottle of meijiu with your girlfriends or order cocktails like the Pink Geisha. The Japanese Zen courtyard also allows for heart-to-heart chats.
42, Changkat Bukit Bintang (03-2141 0323)
FRISK AND FABULOUS: FRANGIPANI
We know Frangipani is all-round classy, chic and up-market ... but sometimes it can be a little pretentious if you are here with the wrong crowd. Friday night is the unofficial night for the boys who sweat glitter; that said, fabulous girls are welcome too. You’ll spot models, designers and the media crowd who are, hmm, frisky and fabulous. Who knows, you might find yourself a new BFF. Word of advice: if you don’t want to be outshone by the boys, make sure you don your sparkliest dress. Show the boys some girl power.
29, Changkat Bukit Bintang (03-21144 3001)
SECRET RENDEZVOUS: TATE
Decadent, dark and strangely alluring, everything in this speakeasy themed bar screams sexy and mysterious. Whether it is a tete-a-tete, a night out with your gal pals, or celebrating a bachelorette night or 21st birthday party; Tate is an ideal place to get quietly hammered and seriously drunk. And if you like it cosy and non-intrusive, the private seating, glamorous interiors, and bespoke cocktails definitely match up to sticks. Add on to that are the cute and hipster-ish bartender and mixologists crafting drinks for you. Take note: the entrance of the bar isn’t the easiest to find, to avoid any confusion (or embarrassment) ask the concierge for help.
Ground Floor, The Intermark, Jalan Tun Razak (03-2161 2367)
FOR EYE-CANDY: BEDROOM
Stylish and sexy, Bedroom is the bar where foreign models come out to play. Especially on Thursday night. We say, there’s nothing wrong with keeping your peepers peeled because your eyes deserve a little reward. And a little flirtation doesn’t hurt, right? Otherwise, after a day of shopping, why not end your night here; sip some cocktails, nurse a drink or two. After all, safety shouldn’t be something you need to worry about, as the shopping mall’s car park has 24-hour security.
Level 6, Pavilion KL, Jalan Bukit Bintang (03-2141 9629)
GROPE-FREE PARTY: MARKET PLACE
Imagine you are in Zouk, surrounded by good-looking, buff guys, but without any groping and endless number-wanting. KL’s rainbow crowd comes out to play and swarms the ‘meat market’ every Saturday night while boogying to up-beat R&B party-tastic anthems. Midway through the night, you’ll see shirtless guys battling to show off their sexy dancing skills on the podium. Let your hair down and go wild on the dance floor, because for once, you don’t have to be wary about guys getting close to you. It is definitely a break from your usual sterile club night out. Worth keeping in mind that the gender signs on the toilets are mere suggestions.
