Most wine or spirit auctions happen in Europe but not the annual Kaigai Fine Wine Asia auction. This auction takes place twice each year, once in summer and once in the fall. The summer auction took place at Tokyo Midtown on 27th May.

It's the 22nd edition of the auction but it's also the first time that rare and collectable whiskies were featured. One of the highlights was a barrel of Glenfarclas distilled in 2011 and bottled by Japan Import Systems. There was also a very rare single bottle of 1964 Karuizawa which took home JPY2,000,000!

To complete the auction experience, Kaigai has launched a lifestyle platform that offers a number of biannual experiences in and around Japan. There'll be unique wine, sake and whisky tasting events held at top-of-the-line restaurants like L'Effervescence and Sushi Hakkoki.

The next auction will take place on 28th October 2018 at the ANA Intercontinental Tokyo. For more information about Kaigai Fine Wine and Whisky Auction, visit www.kaigaiasia.jp.
