You host Stopover: Shanghai, so tell us, what are some of the best places in the city to get a drink?
To be completely honest, I like to hit local places that I don't know the name and can’t pronounce. They’re perfect for a taste of the real and authentic Shanghai and a bit of randomness mixed in.

But are there significant outlets to look out for when visiting the city?
I like 81/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana. It’s originally from Hong Kong and its the only Italian restaurant outside Italy to win three Michelin stars. I also like Cotton’s and the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai’s Long Bar is also a great place to visit.

What would you say are your favourite watering holes in Shanghai and why?

My absolute favourite based on my previous travels there would be Barbarossa, a Middle-Eastern bar which I visited in Stopover: Shanghai. Also featured on the show is the terrace at Mr & Mrs Bund for a great view of the city and awesome selection of wine – there are 32 bottles made available to be ordered, by the glass in varying sizes too. As for non-alcoholic drinks, Sakesan would be a great choice.  It’s famous for its gourmet cocktails, mostly with a sake base and Robatayaki meals, but the grapefruit and lychee mocktails are delicious as well.

What’s a good place to throw back a few cold ones and savour the nightlife the city has to offer?
I like Barbarossa, but Attica Shanghai Club is also good to visit – it promises an awesome view of the Huang Pu River. If you want an intense and over the top clubbing experience, visit Babyface.

What’s your go-to drink after a long day of travelling and filming?
If it’s been a hot day then a beer is nice but with all its anti-oxidants, red wine would be good too. Of course normally I would just sit back and relax with a glass of water. Boring, I know, but I'm thirsty.
