Two Vines, Columbia Crest

Two Vines, Columbia Crest

Characteristically vibrant and rich, Two Vines is a perfect introduction to good quality wine from Washington’s celebrated Columbia Valley. Favoured with a propitious combination of good soil, geography and climate, Two Vines produces very easy to drink, fruit-forward and approachable wine that is full of character. And you can keep them for a year or two upon purchase.

The bargain-priced entry wines – among them the 2007 Merlot, 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2009 Sauvignon Blanc – are favoured not only for their drinkability but also for how easily they pair with food. The fruity tones in particular go well with many meat dishes; grilled steaks, pork chops, roast turkey and even a variety of pasta, making Two Vines a great dinner party wine.

Built in 1981, the Columbia Crest winery released the 1984 vintage of Columbia Valley Merlot as its first, followed by its first release white varietal wines in 1987. The winery has since earned accolades and recognition as one of the world’s best value wineries.

Website: www.columbiacrest.com

Year established: 1981

Product: 2009 Sauvignon Blanc (Retail Price)

Background: With a dry, warm growing season with plenty of sunshine, the 2009 vintage produced white wines with lots of natural acidity and fruit-forward flavours.
Tasting notes: Fresh and lively with a zesty opening tinged with honeydew melon, dried herbs and a hint of freshly cut grass, plus a lengthy citrus-like finish.

Product: 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Retail Price RM59.90)

Background: Harvest was delayed by ten days due to a cool spring and moderate summer but a hot August provided ideal ripening conditions.
Tasting notes: Strawberry, cherry and cola aromas and flavours that harmonise into a long velvety finish.

Product: 2007 Merlot (Retail price: RM59.90)

Background: A mild winter allowed the vines to remain in good shape throughout winter. The heat spike in May allowed for more light penetration and contributed to good flavour development.

Tasting notes: Defined by aromas and flavours of black cherry and raspberry, with expressions of cocoa and coffee framing the mixed palate and a spicy finish.
