Skybar’s signature Basil Smash is a refreshing drink perfect for a hot day. The simple yet effective recipe calls for gin, basil, lemon, syrup and ice. The original cocktail was created in Germany in 2008 using Hendrick’s Gin. Skybar’s version uses Tanqueray Gin, which is a London Dry style that gives more zestiness and spice to this recipe.

Skybar makes their Basil Smash crisp and refreshing (it’s basically vegetables with booze), which tempts you to want to drink a few without the guilt. The sweet basil is slightly muddled, where its aromatic scent is “smashed” out before adding the lemon juice and syrup. Lemon slices are also muddled together with the basil and this action releases citrus oil and herbal notes into the drink, giving it a slight bitter kick.

The green drink is one of the signatures of the bar with the best view of the KLCC twin towers. It is topped with crushed ice to keep the drink chilled longer. But we think it will take more time for the condensation to roll down to the coaster than the time you’ll take to finish it.
