A purple elixir using Thai Honey and Singapore water with an added colour and flavor from Blueberries imported from the State of Oregon in America is born in Brewerkz Singapore this December.
This is the first time after 15 years and 50 different beer styles that the award winning microbrewery restaurant produces a brew using honey as the primary ingredient. "This is our first mead and I feel like a proud, new parent even though this baby is purple,” notes founder and managing director Devin Kimble.
The Blueberry Mead is at 8.44% alcohol by volume and the strongest beverage brewed by Brewerkz to date. Kim Wong, Brewerkz brewery manager who is the master of the Blueberry Mead production said: “Mead is something I have tasted and admired through my travels in other parts of the world. Being in charge of the Fruitbrewz here at Brewerkz I thought it would be interesting to bring a new sort of style and flavor to the market.”
Tasting notes by Devin Kimble: It's not at all like a beer nor is it sweet but the ripe fruit and honey aroma and flavor are as tasty as they are special.
Mead is wine made from honey instead of the usual grapes; honey and water are fermented, sometimes with the addition of a grain mash. The latter is then strained off after fermentation. Alcohol content usually ranges from 8% to a whopping 18%. – Honey Wine by Lyra Deanna
