It’s time of the year again to put on your lederhosen or your dirndl, hold up your 1 litre beer mug and celebrate the Oktoberfest in Bavarian style. Carlsberg Malaysia is bringing this annual festival to the bars everywhere in the country, from big cities to small towns with an endless flow of beer and activities.
Oktoberfest food and stein mug
Started in year 2011, Carlsberg Malaysia’s Oktoberfest has been known to celebrate this festival in full Bavarian style by bringing in German band, food and three imported Bavarian beer brands through Luen Heng Sdn Bhd – Erdinger, Franziskaner and Lowenbrau. Every year, a specially designed mug for the festival is given away to every customer who buys these beers at participating bars. This year, it is a rugged-style stein mug that can hold a litre of beer.
The Longhorn Dirndl "girl"
German six-person band Oktoberfest Oom-Pa-Pah is flown in again this year to perform in outlets throughout the country with Oktoberfest jingles and sounding a 12-foot long alpine horn from Germany. Also called alphorn, the instrument was used by mountaineers in Europe for communication; it is now a popular music instrument. In Malaysia, the longhorn has made into the Malaysian Book of Records as the ‘Longest Carlsberg Malaysia Oktoberfest Longhorn’.

Topping the festival off are of course the lovely Carlsberg Dirndl girls, decked in traditional Bavarian outfits to perform the witty “chicken dance” along with Oktoberfest revellers.

Carlsberg Malaysia Oktoberfest campaign this year was officiated with the tapping of the ceremonial keg in Pavilion KL on 26th September. After the first keg was tapped, a resounding toot of the 12-foot long horn reverberated across the entire corridor of the shopping mall. The Dirndl girls performed ‘chicken dance’ and games such as hat switching and arm wrestling. Food and beer were served in La Bodega and Weissbräu throughout the event.
This year, Carlsberg Malaysia co-host smaller parties with 38 western-concept bars and pubs and is running the Oktoberfest promotion at over 300 outlets nationwide.
Eight selected venues nationwide will be hosting Carlsberg Malaysia’s own Oktoberfest that leads to a massive three-day Grand Finale party that will take place at Old Wing outdoor car park in 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya on 11th and 13th of October.
Adding to the spirit of Oktoberfest, Carlsberg Malaysia Oktoberfest calls upon beer lovers to take part in Facebook activities, including Snap & Prost!, Shout Out Loud and Dirndl Girl Search to win free rounds of Carlsberg beer and attractive giveaways.
