Glenfarclas

The special release Glenfarclas £ 511.19s.0d Family Reserve is to commemorate the 150 year family ownership. £ 511.19s.0d is the amount paid by the first generation of the Grant family, John Grant, who purchased the distillery in the year 1865. The 10,000 bottles limited release is a vatting of Glenfarclas whisky from different years, predominantly from first fill sherry butts. It is a non-chill filtered bottling at 43% ABV.

Glenfarclas is one of the remaining five distilleries in Scotland that is still family-owned. Today, Glenfarclas distillery is run and managed by the 5th and 6th generation of the family, father John Grant and son George Grant. During the launch of the release at the distillery back in June, John and George Grant filled 10 sherry butts and 10 sherry hogshead casks to lay down for the future generations to mark this historic occasion.

Media and special guests were invited to The Social at Trec, in the presence of Glenfarclas’ Sales & Marketing Manager, Ian McWilliam for the launch of the special release. It was the first time the bottle was made available to taste in Malaysia. The tasting involved four other expressions: Glenfarclas Heritage, Glenfarclas 12YO, Glenfarclas 15YO and Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength. The whiskies were paired with a specially created menu by restaurant.

Tasting notes from Glenfarclas: Sweet and rich sherry, like a toffee syrup over a freshly toasted French baguette, the nose promises fresh fruit smothered in heather honey, ending almost like a sweet port. Then a dry yet sweet taste, a lovely balance of fruit, light nuttiness and milk chocolate develop, followed by a very palatable long and easy finish.

Limited bottles of Glenfarclas £ 511.19s.0d Family Reserve are now available for sale at Single & Available at RM580 per bottle. A copy of the original bill of sale is included with each bottle along with a note from George Grant explaining the significance of the £511.19s.0d Family Reserve to the Grant family tradition.
