What does it take to be the best bartender in all of Malaysia? For starters, you have to be able to pour the perfect pint of Heineken Draught and serve it just as perfectly. Throughout the month of July, Heineken Star Academy is travelling all over Malaysia to make sure that our nation's bartenders know just how to do it.
The training sessions, led by Heineken Star Academy's own certified trainers Jonathan Chong and Thomas Ling, will be held at eight major cities in Malaysia – Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Petaling Jaya, Ipoh, Melaka, Johor Bahru, and Kuching.
About 600 bartenders will learn more about the origins of Heineken beer, what it takes to make the lager and how to uphold its quality as well as how to do the perfect five-step pour. On top of the practical pouring tests, participants will also have to take written tests. The bartender with the best score will advance to the next round where he or she will represent Malaysia at the Heineken Global Bartender Finals in Amsterdam later this year.
We tried the five-step ritual pour ourselves and it's not that hard! Follow the steps below and see.
Step 1 – Rinse your Heineken glass to clean and chill it.
Step 2 – Fill it up at a 45° angle (without touching the nozzle).
Step 3 – Skim off the foam at 45° angle to seal the head.
Step 4 – Check to see if the foam sits on the horizontal line of the Heineken star.
Step 5 – Serve on a coaster with the logo facing your customer.
