Whisky PLUS is back in Kuala Lumpur for its 9th edition, offering two exciting sessions filled with unlimited whisky tastings and insightful masterclasses. This year brings a new addition – Australia's multi-award-winning Archie Rose Distilling Co. – known for racking up over 400 accolades in just a decade. If you’re a VIP pass holder, you’ll have the exclusive chance to attend their masterclass.
With countless independent bottlings and new-to-market expressions available to try over the course of four and a half hours, you might be wondering – what to do to get the most out of the biggest whisky event in Malaysia?
Early Session or Evening Session?
Each session lasts 4.5 hours, with Session 1 starting at 12pm and Session 2 kicking off at 5.30pm.
Before the whisky starts flowing, make sure to eat! Get your set meal early to avoid the lines, and drink plenty of water throughout the day. It’s essential not just for hydration, but to refresh your palate between tastings.
The early session offers a few perks. For one, the tasting bottles are fresh and fully stocked. Plus, the brand representatives are likely to be more alert and eager to chat about their whiskies. You’ll also have a better chance of trying those rare bottles before they run out.
The evening session, however, can be more laid-back. After a day of indulgence, your palate might need a wake-up call, so try some sparkling water from Spritzer to refresh it. You can also cleanse your palate with mocktails from Monin or a cup of coffee from Mister Coffee. The latter is great for a scent reset before diving back into tastings.
Standard or VIP?
A Standard Ticket includes a WhiskyPLUS-branded tasting glass with a lanyard holder and unlimited tastings of the exhibited spirits, with the exception of special drams.
For an additional RM120, the VIP Ticket grants you access to premium whiskies, extra food and drinks, and a goodie bag. The VIP area is also a great place to relax, chat with friends, and recharge with food between tastings. Most importantly, you’ll get to sample top-tier whiskies that would typically be expensive by the dram, making the upgrade well worth the cost.
Stay the Night at Eastin Hotel
WhiskyPLUS has partnered with Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur, where the event is being held, to offer ticket holders a special room rate of RM280 nett, which includes breakfast for two and complimentary parking. It’s a perfect option if you want to unwind after the event and have the convenience of your own bathroom – no need to wait in line for the public one!
A Few Extra Perks
For cigar enthusiasts, there’s a dedicated cigar booth outside the tasting hall, featuring Cuban and non-Cuban hand-rolled cigars. Get personalised recommendations on the perfect cigar to pair with your favourite whisky.
This year, Maserati will also be showcasing their luxury high-performance vehicles at the event. Take a moment to admire the craftsmanship and snap a selfie with one of these stunning cars.
Tickets for WhiskyPLUS are available on their event site. Prices range from RM118 for a Two-Hour pass (online only), RM228 for Standard, RM348 for VIP, and RM832 for a group of four.
