On 1 August 2018, Monin Malaysia organised a coffee art competition for the first time ever. Held in collaboration with Dankoff Coffee Specialist, the competition aimed to spread the love for coffee art as well as shed a light on the growing community.

On the panel of judges were Boyd Yap (a WLAC judge and barista trainer), Vivian Lee (coffee caricature artist), Irvine Quek (winner of this year's Malaysia Latte Art competition), and Wataru Inagaki (a barista trainer).

The competition required the baristas to produce the most creative coffee art using Monin's cocoa and caramel products. Out of 16 participants, barista Tan Shen Yang from Arabica Coffee won the first prize of RM2,000 in cash along with a trip to Monin's manufacturing factory in Rawang. His winning masterpiece was a gorgeous eagle (pictured above).

Second and third places went to How Mei Hua from Just Want Coffee and Lim Zi Yuan from Tiffz Coffee Gallery. They won cash prizes of RM600 and RM200 respectively as well as trips to the Monin factory in Rawang.
