Kavalan, Taiwan’s first whisky maker and family-owned whisky distillery, held an intimate tasting evening featuring their award-winning bottlings, and two brand new expressions fresh to the Malaysian market.

Thanks to Single and Available, four of Kavalan’s main expressions have been in Malaysia for a number of years now: the Kavalan Single Malt, Kavalan Concertmaster, Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon, and Kavalan Solist Sherry. All are noted internationally for their smooth and complex notes of tropical fruits, coconut, vanilla, and spice.

The two new expressions from the Solist series are the Kavalan Solist Amontillado and the Kavalan Solist Port Cask. Expressions from this range are cask strength, and are aged between five and seven years to create the perfect flavours that have made them famous across the world.

Amontillado
Aged in Amontillado sherry cask (a type of dry sherry wine originating from Spain), this expression is rich and fruity on the nose with notes of caramel and toffee on the palate. Smooth for a high abv spirit, the whisky tastes of subtle nutty aroma of toasted almond and hazelnut, and a gentle peppery finish.

Port Cask
The Port Cask has dominant fruit flavours of plum, blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry that are infused from the Portuguese Port wine barriques, against a chocolate background flavour, and some notes of oak and wood.
