Background: A relatively lesser-known brand in the world of whisky, Glen Grant distillery was founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant in the town of Rothes in Speyside. Despite its low profile, Glen Grant is actually the third largest producer of whisky in Scotland, behind Macallan and Glenfiddich. Having endured a patchy history that saw the distillery change owners numerous times, it was eventually bought by Campari in 2005, and under their ownership, it has experienced a change in packaging and a gradual ascent to recognition as a single malt, and is now the biggest selling single malt in Campari’s home, Italy. Official bottlings like the Major’s Reserve are popular for their mild and light flavours associated with shorter maturation in bourbon casks. Independent releases from bottlers like Gordon & Macphail, with whom Glen Grant have a close relationship with, are famous for their complexity and sherried notes.
