Sweden produces small amount of cider compared to the neighbouring countries (significantly much lesser than the UK ).
In 2008, Carlsberg launched Somersby brand in its company of origin and therefore has added to the list of cider brands in Denmark. Somersby cider contains 4.5% alcohol and uses natural apple or pear juices to enhance the flavour and sweetness though there is no artificial sweetener, flavourings or colourings added. It contains 15% juice by volume which is within the required law to be qualified as a cider product1.
It is packaged into bottles and cans. In Europe, it is also served on draught. However, there are only the bottled version in Malaysia and Singapore so far. The product has a shelf life of 12 months from packaged until consumption.
Somersby is designed for the city-lites as it is a brand associated with going out and being social. It is suggested to be served over ice to increase the refreshing feeling of the drink.
Only the apple flavour is available in Malaysia; both apple and pear flavours are available in Singapore.
1. The law in Sweden restricts stores to sell cider with less than 15% juice by volume uner the name of cider.
