The 3rd South East Asia Best Sommelier Competition will be held from 5th to 7th of November 2012in Kuala Lumpur. The competition is open to member countries of the South East Asia Sommelier Alliance, which was formed in 2009 with the focus of fostering friendship within the region and developing skills and knowledge of wine and beverage service.

Being the winning country since its start, the Malaysian Sommelier Association of Malaysia (SOMLAY) is hoping to make a hat trick of wine on our home ground this year. In conjunction with the competition, several wine events such as the Alsace Master Class, Alsace and Provence educational training programs, wine dinner with local food also for the first time, a mini wine exhibition. This exhibition will be held during the afternoon of the Grand Finals to enhance the whole competition as well to draw local and overseas wine trades, hospitality and educational organisations.

6 countries will be participating in the competition this year, namely Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan (on invitation) and Malaysia. The panel of judges are internationally known sommeliers: Andreas Larrson (Best Sommelier of the World 2007), Jean Pascal Paubert (Honorary President and Founder of the Association of Sommeliers Bordeaux-Aquitaine), Hiroshi Ishida (3rd Placing in the Best Sommelier of the World 2000), Choi Sung Do (Honorary President of the Korea International Sommelier Association), Thierry Fritsch (Oenologist and Training Manager from Conseil Interprofessionel des Vins d'Alsace) and Francois Millo (Director General of the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Provence).
