Thirstmag Cocktail Competition Malaysia 2013

Are you a bartender? Think you have the talent to create new drinks that make the impression? Here is your chance to show what you've got!

KL’s bartending scene is booming. Thanks to all the cocktail bars that have mushroomed in recent years. No longer only be seen in 5-stars hotels, independent cocktails bars, which often modeled after New York or London-style bars have sprouted across the city. Since then, the term ‘mixology’ has been heavily coined. Looking for a good Old Fashioned or a Dirty Martini has never been easier. Hence, it is not surprising that the numbers of bartenders are also increasing; which all together brought the whole cocktail culture to a level that it has never been before.

To encourage local bartenders to be part of the rise of cocktail culture, and present them the opportunity to show off their creativity, Thirstmag has teamed up with Single Malt Sdn. Bhd. in this cocktail competition. This competition also hopes to ascertain the local bartending standard and encourage bartenders to exchange knowledge and skills in the trade. Participating bartenders will have to create an iconic drink using Angostura Reserva, Aged 5 Years or Aged 7 Years as base.

Angostura is an award-winning rum that has been in the business for over 100 years following the same traditional method for making rum that has been used for centuries. The machinery and technology may have evolved, but the basic process has remained the same. Angostura Rum is only produced from molasses naturally. And it is now been distributed over 140 countries. The sole distributor, Single Malt Sdn. Bhd. is also local distributor of Hendrick’s Gin and Glenfiddich.

The winning bartenders will receive fantastic prizes. The 1st prize winner will receive cash prizes, merchandises and a chance to work with Angostura in promoting the winning cocktail for a certain period of time. While the 2nd prize and 3rd prize will be given cash prizes as well as merchandises.

How to Take Part?

The recipe submission form can be sent to admin@thirstmag.com or by delivery to Thirst Media, A-0-5, No. 1 Jalan Nagasari, Ground Floor, One Residency (Off Jalan Raja Chulan), 50200 Kuala Lumpur.

The finale of Thirstmag Cocktail Competition will take place in Kuala Lumpur. Eight finalists will be selected to participate in the live competition and battle out for the initial title. The list will be announced on 29 April 2013.
