The results of the first Wine Pinnacle Awards were announced on 10 October 2019 at Resorts World Sentosa attended by top wine professionals and media from around the world. 27 accolades were given out for distinguished wine making.
The awards presented by Genting Singapore was led by Jeannie Cho Lee, the first Asian Master of Wine and member of the Wine Pinnacle Awards Committee. The committee comprised of five internationally reputable wine experts - Jeannie Cho Lee of Hong Kong, Kenichi Ohashi of Japan, Doug Frost of the United States, Oz Clarke of the United Kingdom and Andreas Larsson of Sweden. The committee was responsible for establishing the nomination structure and formation of the 54 members jury of which 33 are Masters of Wine and 9 are Master Sommeliers. The entire process of forming the structure for the awards and selecting the jury panel, to deciding on the categories and results took 2 years to complete.
The award is by nomination and not submission, therefore, no fee is required. The jury were invited to submit nominations in sequence of their preference with each nomination carrying different points. Nominees with the highest points are the winners of their category. Each category had 9 nominations to start with the top 5 scorers announced in August. 1,069 nominations were received from the jury for the 27 categories.
Categories worth noting are Best Friend Of The Earth (Most Environmentally-Conscious), Best Chinese Red, Best Organic/Natural Wine Of The Year and the Hidden Treasures.
