You've got to hand it to the Scots. Not only have they worked out how to make some of the best whiskies in the world but they’ve just gone out and created what may well be the world’s strongest beer.
Concocted by Scottish Brewery, Brewmeister, the brew named Armageddon reportedly comes with an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 65 percent. Just for comparison most beers average an ABV of 3-7 percent.
According to the official release, Armageddon is made with crystal malt, wheat, flaked oats and 100 percent pure Scottish spring water. The higher ABV content is attained when Brewmeister freezes the fermented beer. When the ice is finally removed the remnants of the strong beer is left behind.
Despite the high alcohol content, Brewmeister claims that beer has a lot of flavour with malty, hoppy, slightly sweet notes. But the brewers themselves suggest that Armageddon should be consumed like a fine whisky. But the beer does come with a strict warning – “Be careful, smelling it is probably enough to put you over the limit!”
It now remains to be seen how long before Armageddon will be usurped from its throne as the Scots have been producing high ABV beers for a number of years now. Rivals, BrewDog brewery produced two beers that boasted 41 percent and 55 percent ABV named called Sink the Bismarck and The End of History, respectively.
What do you think the odds are of them working on a stronger brew now even as you read this?
