Flying Monkeys

Who doesn’t love a themed bar. From the people who brought to life Yellow Brick Road and Wizards of Tribeca, comes Flying Monkeys (doggedly keeping with the Wizard of Oz theme), a contemporary cocktail bar on the eighth floor of Residensi Tribeca.

From their picture window you have a view of the gargantuan Tun Razak Exchange building across the road, but inside it’s a chic spot with artistic touches – like the mural of three flying monkeys – and sleek leather sofas, bar tables and matching modern stools, and a striking black and white chevron tiled floor.

Malaccan Fashioned

The bar menu is split into four sections: A Riff on the Classics, Contemporary, Light and Easy, and Tipsy-Free. They’re pretty self-explanatory, and each section boasts some extremely creative concoctions: consider the Malaccan Fashioned for an Old Fashioned with Jameson Irish Whisky, pink grapefruit, and gula melaka; Winged Creatures for a variation on the Jungle Bird, made with Kraken Black Spiced Rum, pineapple, and lime; or the Negroni Savage, named after the man who produces the coffee they use in the Gesha Cascara-infused gin and espresso-infused vermouth, Mr Jamison Savage.

Fifth Taste

Outside of the classics, other standouts include Fifth Taste, an umami experience for the daring using Edinburgh Seaside Gin, Campari, homemade tomato cordial, and calamansi; the wickedly green Elphaba’s Brew, a light drink made with gin, NikoNeko matcha, a peach slice served as a brûlée, lemon, and soda; and the Empress Dream, a delightful flip made with Osmanthus and lemon (and named after the Dowager Empress Wu, China’s only female Empress). The Light and Easy cocktails are easy to drink, while Tipsy-Free comprises of a selection of four beautifully made mocktails.

Not forgetting bar snacks, guests are able to order a variety of tasty morsels to go together with their drinks – some fried, like the Morning Glory Chips, Drunken Wontons, and Salted Egg Chicken Strips; some Oriental favourites like the Pulled Beef Bao, and the Unagi Bao; or something sweet like the Chocolate Truffles, and Cheeky Churros.
