If you have been living in KL long enough, you’ll realise that there isn’t any decent cocktail bar between KL city centre and Petaling Jaya. The good bars are either in the premium locations such as the KLCC/Jalan Ampang area (Marini’s on 57, Omakase + Appreciate, Claret Wine Bar) or all the way in Bangsar/Damansara are (Hit & Mrs, Mr Brookes, Hyde at 53M).
Opened this month in China Town where many pre-war buildings are preserved, PS150 (short for Petaling Street unit number 150) offers a nostalgic back-in-time atmosphere with a menu that comprises recipes from 5 different cocktail eras: Vintage, Classic, Tiki, Disco and Contemporary.
Find flavours from ingredients that are native to Southeast Asia in most of PS150’s creations such as Salty Chinaman that uses lime and preserved lemon or Lychee No. 3 that carries the fragrance of lychee and ginger flower. Try their range of adventurous spirits and local wines specially curated by the bar headed by Angel Ng (formerly from Hit & Mrs).
Previously operated as a brothel, the shop lot retains most of its basic structure. It is a social space yet gives a feeling of intimacy at the same time. There are three parts of the bar: several booths that provide intimate atmosphere, the bar and outdoor terrace. These seating areas each represent different eras in the history of Indochina and cocktails.
Ask the parking attendants for directions, they are a friendly lot at Petaling Street.
