Nestled within The Back Ground, a food and drink market place within the revived Rex Theatre in Chinatown, is cocktails, tuak and highball joint, Rex Bar.
The relaunched Rex Bar now focuses on highballs and cocktails, together with one craft beer on tap and a rotating selection of beers in bottles and cans, all to be enjoyed with food offered by the passionate purveyors that make up the ground floor of the all-day dining hall.
Curated by Rex Bar’s general manager, Angel Ng, here are some of the menu highlights from their press release:
Tales of Kopitam Uncle - Sake, Salted Mandarin and Sonic RM30
The inspiration came from uncles who drink beers and eat Chinese dry noodles in kopitiams.
This is a version suited for a food hall and celebrates day drinking.
Mdm. Taka Blanco - Tequila Reposado, Spicy Miso, Yuzu Tonic RM32
This particular drink is very close to Angel’s heart. It is a hybrid of two of her favourite drinks: La Paloma, her go-to in any cocktail bars she visits, and Micheladas, a hangover weekend brunch drink with her friends. Angel wants to pay tribute to Goddess Tequila for all the great times she gave her.
Jacky Joseph Junior - Jameson Black Barrel, Jackfruit Tea, Club Soda RM35
The original cocktail recipe for this was Angel’s first tribute to her son before he was born. If you want a trip down memory lane, try this highball version. It tastes like childhood candy.
From the taps, tuak of the week is RM18 per glass, highballs at RM28 per glass and craft beer at RM38 per glass. Packaged craft beers are between RM28 to RM38. All prices are inclusive of taxes.
Bar Snacks are available from The Back Ground vendors Pasta Lahh, Barbacoa, Lauk Pauk, Ticklish Ribs n’ Wiches, Fake Bro Real Pork and Fifty Tales.
