You’ll find Skullduggery at the back of Huckleberry, behind a thick wooden door with metal pieces and a small opening. Up a flight of cement steps is the dimly lit cocktail bar with copper hued lighting throughout (so don’t expect to read a book there, you can’t). The bar intends to make patrons feel just like the name suggests, to partake in shady behaviour. What would be expected are cocktails made with secret ingredients, dark coloured furniture, dapper surroundings and a sanctuary for unwinding.
The signature decoration of the bar is a wall mounted with 238 small copper-plated skulls. The 900 square feet space is lined up with leather sofas up to the four barkeeps. Behind the metal fence in the wall leading to the back of the bar is a mini railway track that houses an actual moving train. Order spirits by the bottle, choose from a selection of classic and bespoke cocktails or punch bowls. Kick back in the dark brown leather and perhaps order a cigar to go with your tipples or snacks from their kitchen downstairs. Expect strong cocktails that contain double pour shots (50ml), a standard pour in the world’s top bars.
The bartenders in Skullduggery: (From left) Mattman Joseph, Viji Thomas & Kavirath Baskaran.
Funk, soul, retro and R&B music is played on regular nights whereas hip hop tunes are for Fridays and Saturdays. Ladies night every Wednesday serves up free house cocktails for the ladies up to 11pm.
