Remy Martin who started selling cognac in 1724 was the only winegrower granted rights to plant vines when it was illegal to do so at that time. The 1738 Accord Royal released in 1997 was created to commemorate “the reward of excellence bestowed on Remy Martin by King Louis XV of France in 1738”.
The spirit
A blend of eaux-de-vie aged between 4 and 20 years old in toasted Limousin French oak casks, the 40% ABV cognac is a rich amber colour.
Tasting notes
Nose: Smelling still rather young on the nose when freshly poured, we let the liquid sit for a minute before nosing again. Going past the ethanol is vanilla, dry figs, oakiness, and peach.
Palate: On the palate it is sweet caramel, a touch of orange zest, dark fruits, and some chocolate notes.
Finish: The finish is dry with light tannins and a woody finish, and a little more fig when exhale from the nose.
Sipping & Cocktails
Depending on individual’s palate, this can be a sipping cognac for the heat and warmth. We think, however, the Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal makes some flavourful cocktails in our versions of the classics:
60ml Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal Cognac
20ml Cointreau triple sec
20ml Lemon juice
Pour all ingredients into a shaker, add ice and shake for 15 seconds. Strain into a coupe glass, garnish with a lemon twist.

30ml Cointreau triple sec
30ml Lime juice
Salt, Lime wedge
Run a lime wedge around the rim of the cocktail glass then dip the rim into some salt. Pour all liquid ingredients into a shaker, add ice and shake for 15 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with a lime wheel.
45ml Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal Cognac
15ml Honey
10ml Plain water
2 dashes Angosutra bitters
Pour all ingredients into a glass, add ice and stir for 30 seconds. Strain into a rock glass, garnish with an orange peel and a Maraschino cherry.
